    An Expert Group Meeting on “Knowledge Societies and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda” took place in Montevideo, Uruguay on 29 February 2016, co-organized by the UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP) and the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) in collaboration with the Uruguayan Agency for Development of Electronic Government and Knowledge Society (AGESIC) .

    The aim of the meeting was to present, discuss and validate the first version of the Knowledge Societies Policy Handbook and Platform (UNKSOC.ORG), a policy instrument developed by UNESCO/IFAP and UNU-EGOV to provide guidance to the national, local and international actors engaged in the development, implementation and evaluation of Knowledge Societies Policies to further the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

    The meeting was attended by 37 experts, researchers and policymakers from government, academia, civil society and international organizations from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Denmark, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ireland, Lebanon, Poland, Portugal, Spain, St. Kitts & Nevis, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay.

    The outcomes of the meeting were presented during the UNESCO/IFAP invited session at the 9th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV2016) that took place on 1-3 March 2016 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The outcomes will be also used to inform the revision of the first version of the Knowledge Societies Policy Handbook and Platform (UNKSOC.ORG) towards its official release in April or May 2016.
