    As part of the ongoing work with officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMKOMINFO), an Executive Training by UNU-EGOV researchers and adjunct professors will take place between 6-10 November 2017 at the Operating Unit premises in Guimarães, Portugal. The Ambassador of Indonesia to Portugal will open the event with a keynote lecture.

    The main theme of the training is Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) – Policy, Strategy and Experiences From Across the Globe. ICT has helped societies to reshape a better future through its direct and indirect links in our everyday life. During the training in Portugal, the 18 selected Indonesian officials will receive training on general topics such as Public Policy in the ICT SectorICT and Broadband EconomyICT and e-GovernmentSmart CitiesLessons from Developing Countries. The second block concerns various issues focusing on telecommunications policy, such as spectrum management (encompassing technology, regulatory and business aspects), recent issues in telecommunications industry (such as Next Generation network- 5G, IP communications services, Voice over LTE and the Internet of Things). On the third block, it is expected that by the end of the training the participants will also have some understanding on preparing evidence-based data for policy analysis, as well as drafting a policy brief.

    During the last day of the training (10 November), a field visit will also be provided by Portuguese agencies which work in the area of ICT, telecommunications and public policy: Altice-Labs and the Agency for Administrative Modernization, the latter being the public institute that exercises the powers of the Prime Minister’s Office in the fields of administrative modernization, simplification and digital administration in Portugal. In addition, Filipe Batista from the Portuguese Telecommunications Authority (ANACOM) will also come to UNU-EGOV to share their experiences dealing with the policy in the sector and on designing the Digital Agenda in Africa.
