To commemorate the UNU-EGOV Opening Ceremony, which will take place on 24 April 2015, and to make the Operating Unit better known to the local society, a symphonic concert open to the public will take place on the night of 23 April 2015.
The concert will be performed by over 45 musicians of the Guimarães Orchestra, including the special participation of the Russian violoncellist Pavel Gomziakov, and will be conducted by Maestro Vítor Hugo Matos. The program of the concert will comprise two parts: 1) Cello and Orchestra Concerto No.1 in C major by Joseph Haydn and 2) Symphony No.1 in B-flat major Op. 38 “Spring” by Robert Schumann.
The venue of the concert will be the Church of St. Francis. Initially constructed during the 13th century and demolished some years later due to the fact that it stood too close to the city walls and impaired its defenses, the Church was built anew during the 15th century by the direct order of King John I of Portugal, along with the adjacent Convent of St. Francis. The Church and Convent of St. Francis are two of the most important historical buildings in the city.
