Elsa Estevez, UNU-EGOV Senior Academic Programme Officer contributed to the Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on “Innovating Public Service Delivery for Sustainable Development”, part of the “2015 United Nations Public Service Forum, Day and Awards Ceremony” organized in Medellin, Colombia on 24-25 June 2015 by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM), in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Government of the Republic of Colombia.
Following the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/57/277 and the designation of 23 June as the UN Public Service Day to “celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community”, the United Nations Public Service Award is organized to recognize the contributions of public service organizations to more effective and responsive public administrations. Eligible organizations include government agencies at the national and sub-national levels, public-private partnerships and non-government organizations performing outsourced public service functions.
The EGM aimed at advancing the understanding of innovation and transformation in the public sector and strengthening public administration capacities for effective, efficient, responsive, equitable and accountable delivery of public services for sustainable development. Elsa Estevez contributed to the EGM’s session on “Governance Challenges For Innovative Public Service Delivery” by explaining the evolution and trends in Digital Government, particularly contextualization, and how they enable innovations in public service delivery; moderating the session on “Capacity Building for Innovative Solutions in Public Service Delivery”; and co-producing the recommendations from the EGM.
