Elsa Estevez, Senior Academic Programme Officer at UNU-EGOV contributed to “The e-Government Web Accessibility Divide and the European Internet Inclusion Initiative” session that took place on 25 May 2015 as part of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2015, organized by ITU in Geneva. The session was chaired by Kim Andreasson, Managing Director, DAKA advisory AB, Sweden, and included presentations by Mikael Snaprud, CEO of Tingtun AS, Norway, and the co-ordinator of the European Internet Inclusion Initiative (EIII), and Elsa Estevez.
Elsa Elsa presented the the Mobile Governance Toolkit developed by UNU-EGOV and validated in Vanuatu, and explained how the Toolkit could help introduce accessibility issues into national policy-making for Mobile Governance. Mikael Snaprud discussed the importance of web accessibility generally and specifically the efforts of EIII to uncover technical barriers on the European public sector websites for people with disabilities. He also provided a live demonstration of the EIII tool.
The audience was strongly engaged and raised a number of important questions to the panelists, from technical aspects of the EIII tool to mobile governance strategy for Vanuatu.
