Elsa Estevez and Tomasz Janowski held the first series of introductory meetings in Guimarães in order to present the new United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) to the local partners ahead of its start of operations on 1 July 2014.

Three meetings were held with António Cunha, Rector of the University of Minho, João Monteiro, Dean of the University of Minho School of Engineering, and Domingos Bragança, Mayor of  the Municipality of Guimarães. All meetings were also attended by Luís Soares Barbosa and Paulo Novais, Professors from the University of Minho Department of Informatics.

The meetings introduced recent developments and the next steps in the establishment of UNU-EGOV in Guimarães, and explored possible collaboration between UNU-EGOV and the University of Minho, the School of Engineering, and the Municipality of Guimarães. The mission also included a seminar delivered by Tomasz Janowski to the joint audience from the Schools of Engineering, Law, and Economics and Management. The seminar introduced UNU, explained the concept, trends and evolution (including the latest stage – EGOV) of technology adoption by governments, and presented UNU-EGOV.

The UNU-EGOV team also took the opportunity of this mission to personally thank António Cunha for his leadership and efforts in facilitating the establishment of UNU-EGOV in Guimarães.
