Revolving around 10 challenges to social security in Europe, Morten Meyerhoff Nielsen from UNU-EGOV delivered a keynote on technology and change in the public sector at the Regional Social Security Forum, which took place in Baku (Azerbaijan) from 14 to 16 May. The event was organised by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and hosted by Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan.
The focus of the keynote was on various modes of facilitating change in the public sector and new ways of producing and delivering services. During the subsequent panel discussion, the trinity of change, that is, Technology, Human Resources and Leadership, was emphasized by all panelists. The event and focus of ISSA falls within the core focus of UNU-EGOV, including past projects on public sector service delivery, administrative burden reduction and not least current work on the relationships between technology, innovation, strategies and policy to transform the public sector in support of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The ISSA event was attended by 282 participants, 55 social security institutions, and 17 international organisations from 35 countries.
