Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2019

    Judy Backhouse, Senior Academic Fellow at UNU-EGOV, together with the Municipality of Guimarães, attended the Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2019. The fourth edition of this summit, which took place in Lisbon from 21 to 23 May, gathered industry, municipalities, startups, and universities to discuss emerging themes related to sustainable and smart cities, such as environment, energy, technology, among others.

    This edition gathered more than 7000 participants, 192 exhibitors, 70 start-ups, 17 municipalities, and several speakers on technologies, mobility and smart cities-related research. The main theme of the event was “Building Our Future Together” and focused on four main areas:

    1. technology solutions for energy, infrastructure and transportation;
    2. software to manage cities that accumulates data, offers incident reports and city dashboards;
    3. organisations that work towards implementing smart cities, including municipalities, but also network organisations that bring together interested parties;
    4. innovation, city hubs and creativity.
