Tomasz Janowski, the Head of UNU-EGOV, attended the commemoration activities of the sixty-ninth anniversary of the United Nations organized by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in the Lisbon City Hall on 24 October 2014.
The heads of other UN agencies present in Portugal, namely the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), attended as well.
The commemoration activities included the presentations of the UN agencies based in Portugal, a message by the UN Secretary General and speeches delivered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by Freitas do Amaral, former President of the United Nations General Assembly (1995). The activities also included a photographic exhibition of the work by the UN system outside the Lisbon City Hall, a display of publications produced by the UN agencies present in Portugal, and a book release “Essential Facts about the United Nations”, in Portuguese, by UNRIC.
