UNU Rector visits Guimarães City Hall

    David Malone, the Rector of the United Nations University (UNU) and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations was hosted by Domingos Bragança, the Mayor of the Municipality of Guimarães, in the Guimarães City Hall on 23 April 2014, ahead of the opening ceremony of the UNU Operating Unit of Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) that took place on 24 April 2014. He was accompanied by two Vice-Rectors of the University of Minho: Rui Vieira de Castro, Vice-Rector for Education, and Rui Reis, Vice-Rector for Research, and by Tomasz Janowski, the Head of UNU-EGOV.

    During the visit, David Malone addressed the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council, thanking them for the warm welcome and support to UNU and its new Operating Unit based in the city, recognizing the immensely rich historical and cultural legacy of Guimarães, and praising how well the city is managed and run from his observation. He also attended a tour of the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza and the historical center of Guimarães, the UNESCO World Heritage site.
