David Malone, the Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations visited the University of Minho on 23 April 2015, ahead of the opening ceremony of the UNU Operating Unit of Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) that took place on 24 April 2014.
First, he visited the University of Minho Rectorate in Braga, hosted by two Vice-Rectors: Rui Vieira de Castro, Vice-Rector for Education, and Rui Reis, Vice-Rector for Research, who introduced the units, research and programmes of the University. Then, he visited the School of Engineering in the University of Minho’s Azurém Campus in Guimarães where he was hosted by João Monteiro, the Dean of the School, and took a tour of the Computational Graphics Centre.
On the following day, he also met several faculty members from the University of Minho’s Department of Informatics – Luis Barbosa and Victor Fonte, Department of Information Systems – Delfina Sá Soares and Rui Dinis Sousa, Department of International Relations and Public Administration – António Tavares, Department of Economics – Ligia Pinto and Miguel Portela, School of Law – Francisco Andrade, and Department of Communication Sciences – Emilia Araújo, who presented relevant research areas through which the departments could collaborate with UNU-EGOV.
