Visit of the Institute of Higher Military Studies to UNU-EGOV

    UNU-EGOV received, on the morning of 14 July 2016, a delegation from the Portuguese Institute of Higher Military Studies (IUM), a public higher education institution for military studies which provides training and education to the officers of the Armed Forces and the National Republican Guard throughout their careers, enabling them to perform command and staff duties within their own branches, combined joint forces and within national or international institutions and organizations.

    The delegation was led by Major General Jorge Filipe Marques Moniz Corte-Real Andrade, the Deputy Director of IUM, Colonel Carlos Manuel Cordeiro Rodrigues, the Course Head, and Major Alexandre Fernando Mendes, the Visit Coordinator, and comprised 18 students from the Military General Staff Course. The visit was framed within a larger tour to the Guimarães region, and aimed at providing students with an overall view of the current status of the region, including relevant economic, academic, social and cultural activities, potentialities and actors. The delegation was received by Prof. Tomasz Janowski, the Head of UNU-EGOV, and several staff members from UNU-EGOV and the University of Minho.

    The meeting included a presentation of UNU and UNU-EGOV, explained what is Digital Government, introduced the activities and research themes pursued by UNU-EGOV and how they contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and presented the projects conducted by UNU-EGOV. The meeting concluded with discussion on the role of Digital Government in the defense sector, explored the potential for collaboration between IUM and UNU-EGOV in Digital Government research and education, and included a tour of the premises.
