    As part the ongoing work on Research Line 3 – Smart Governance for Sustainable Cities and Communities – Postdoctoral Fellow Nuno Lopes attended two significant events in the context of smart cities and urban challenges.


    World Urban Forum 2018

    Organized by UN-HABITAT, the 9th edition of this forum has become an international platform for the exchange of perspectives and experiences related to current urban challenges. The theme of WUF9 was Cities for All, Cities 2030: Implementing the New Urban Agenda. The theme pushes for the realization of the vision of sustainable cities and communities by 2030, as stated in the Sustainable Development Goal 11 of the United Nations. With a multi-diverse structure of 500 events, the WUF9 comprises high-level round-tables, dialogues, special sessions, and discussions rooms with 250 speakers. This year, the event gathered, in Kuala Lumpur, 22 000 participants representing national, regional and local governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs, community-based organizations, research institutions and academies, and the private sector from 160 countries.


    Smart Republic Conference 2018

    The 3rd edition of the Smart Republic conference 2018 took place in New Delhi, India. 220 participants attended the conference and engaged in fruitful deliberations towards a Smart India. In the event, UNU-EGOV took part by conducting a workshop on capacity building in the context of India. At the same times, the Operating Unit Training Courses were shown, together with a panel participation by researcher Nuno Lopes.
