Administrative and regulatory burden reduction is nowadays seen as a priority to improve governmental efficiency and economic competitiveness. In a world increasingly based on the electronic exchange of information, information communication technologies (ICT) are considered key tools in designing policies to achieve those goals. Digital government solutions may reduce time, search and coordination costs associated with traditional bureaucratic procedures, to citizens, firms, and the government, increase tax compliance and reduce the shadow economy.

Using a large panel dataset, covering around 180 countries, this project aims to investigate a possible contribution of innovations in digital governments to the creation of a business-friendly environment and to formulate policy recommendations that are useful to government authorities.
